Sydney based sports club Super Sikhs Sports and Cultural over the weekend launched its upcoming 2014 Super Sikhs Cup event at Chilli Pepper Indian Resturant in Blacktown. The tournament is scheduled for the 28th of September at Bernie Mullane Sports Complex in Kellyville, NSW, Australia. The event will be host to 8 sports, 43 teams and 350 athletes over the course of the day.
The evening saw community members, leaders and sponsors from all walks of life come together and discuss sport and how as a community it can be moved forward with unity. Distinguished guests gave speeches urging everyone to get involved and put up their hand to make 2014 Super Sikhs Cup a success. Gurughar Presidents and Sectaries from across Sydney were present and vouched their support to furthering sport in Sydney.
Super Sikhs president Gurpreet Singh Badwal highlighted Super Sikhs goal in hosting the sports event is to provide a platform for athletes to compete in Sydney, showcasing their abilities and talent to the community in a family environment, and to inspire the next generation to achieve higher heights and to one day represent Australia in their sport.
It was noted that Super Sikhs Cup is the only multi-sports tournament of this size that has been organised in Sydney for the last 2 years. Their inaugural tournament in 2013 was a success and has encouraged the team at Super Sikhs to continue to put in the hard work to provide the same opportunity to athletes from a wider background of sports this year.
With the support of the community the sports cup will run smoothly and effectively, whilst setting up a sustainable model for the tournament to be hosted every year for the Sydney Sangat and providing a pathway for athletes to progress to the next level.
