Every time we visit this beach, located 3 hours from Sydney; we thank our stars for making us settle in Australia. Yes! that is how much we love Hyams beach. My love story began since the time we saw an advertisement on YouTube about the beach. In front of me was this pristine looking beach with incredibly clear water and white sand jumping out at me. It was then that I decided that I just had to go there.
As you all know, we have always loved exploring every nook and corner of NSW. While we have visited almost 100 beaches and other destinations in all directions from Sydney, this beach holds a very special place in our hearts! Read on to find out why.
The first time we decided to head to Jervis Bay, we had no idea on the amount of beautiful places the South Coast had. Soon it was on the top of our “best beaches in NSW” list.
Here is what our first glimpse of Jervis Bay looked like:
Did you know that Hyams Beach has been mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records as the whitest sand in the world! All this while we thought that the famous Whitehaven Beach in Queensland is the whitest but we were really proved wrong. The sand at Hyams Beach was white, squeaky clean, soft and looked straight out of a travel brochure. No editing needed.
Usually Australian beaches get very busy on a weekend or a hot summer day, which is why we chose a weekday to head there. It is better to head there earlier so you can choose a good spot and enjoy the beach in its pure form before the midday heat.
Hyams Beach has a very small and quiet beachside town with a population of just 290. The beach itself is located in a nature reserve with only very little residential properties. It is truly a magical place and I would totally recommend anyone travelling to Sydney to have a little road trip down south to this slice of heaven. It is not surrounded by tall skyscrapers or fancy resorts. In fact it is hidden away surrounded by national parks and bushes. So very untouched and raw. Just like the way we like it!
How to reach Hyams Beach:
Hyams Beach is located in the Jervis Bay region just 180 km south of Sydney (just 2.5-3 hours drive).
Where to stay:
Hyam’s beach is located in Jervis Bay and has several accommodation options for budget and luxury travel around it. Our favourite is the Green patch beach camping spot which is located in the Boodoorie National Park close to the beach. NSW South coast is definitely very underrated and under appreciated, which is why Hyams beach has been able to maintain some of it’s virgin and quiet look. You must definitely add it to your must-visit list of places when you visit the south coast of NSW.
