Australia India Business Council organised a farewell cocktail evening with His Excellency Mr Biren Nanda, High Commissioner of India to Australia, at Hilton Hotel in Sydney on 28th Jan 2015.
The event was attended by friends and members of AIBC from various cities around Australia.
Mr. Biren Nanda joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1978, upon completion of his Post Graduation in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics and has previously served as a diplomat in Indian Missions in Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, Washington, D.C. and Tokyo. Some of the crowing glories of his tenure in Australia have been, hosting the Regional PBD in Sydney, several G20 ministerial level meetings and most recently the highly successful visit of Indian PM Mr Narendra Modi to Australia. In the past 2 ½ years there have been 3 visits by the Prime Ministers exchanged between 2 countries- PM Julia Gillard went to Indian in Oct 2012, PM Abbot went to India in Sep 2014 and PM Modi came to Australia in Nov 2014.
Mr Nanda said that Australia today is at the cusp of becoming the major trade partner, major investment partner and major security partner with India.
Sheba Nandkeolyar, AIBC National Vice Chair, in her address said that Mr Nanda has worked tirelessly very often without shouting out loud and AIBC has been richer, better and much organised place ever since we have been interacting with him.
Kavita Shukla from CBA handed a token of momentum to Mr Nanda.
When asked about his future plans Mr Nanda said with a smile that for now he just wants to enjoy his freedom.
