Golden songs of the popular radio presenter Ameen Sayani’s era were brought alive in Sydney C3 auditorium on 9th April 2016.
Gurudutt Shenoy and Vijay Gumber of RASS events with Rahul Jethi of BOQ Bella Vista organized this event and proceeds were given to the charity ‘Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation-an organization offering primary education to underprivileged children in India.’
Geetmala concert was an audio-visual treat to its audience. Two Sa Re Ga Ma ..singing competition talented singers- Gaurav Bangia and Amruta Natu took audience on a nostalgic journey of old super hit Boolywood songs. It was a packed hall of music lovers, when the singers sang golden era songs projecting the film songs on a big screen.
The concert paid a tribute to legendary music directors of Bollywood such as Madan Mohan, O P Nayyar, SD Burman, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Shankar Jaikishan, Salil Chowdhury, RD Burman and many more. Gaurav Bangia’s witty and hilarious commentary kept the audience engaged and they sang their favourite songs e.g.‘dil ke jharokhe me tujhko baitthakar’ ‘Tum jo mil gaye ho’ and answered all film related questions with great enthusiasm. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa winners Gaurav and Amruta sang all time favourite romantic and melodious songs from black and white to colour films such as ‘ye rat bhigi bhigi’, ‘pyar hua ikrar hua’, ‘zindagi kasi hai Paheli’, ‘aasman se aaya farishta’ ‘vo chup rahe to mere’ ‘Teri aankhon ke siva’ ‘Tere Liye’ ‘Suhana safar hai ye mausam hasin’ ‘kahin door ye din’ etc. Ameen Sayani the legendary radio presenter of Binaca Geetmala introduced music directors on video in his unique voice.
Local musicians accompanied singers on the stage were Maharashi Raval on Tabla, Arnab on violin, Rosie Henshaw on Sitar and Prabhu Osoniqs on various instruments.
No doubt, ‘Geetmala’- a 3-hour concert took audience on a musical journey of evergreen old songs. The concert proved that the magic of old Bollywood music will never fade and will stay in the hearts of the coming generations.
