The Hon. Sophie Costis MLC, Shadow Minister for Ageing, Disability Services and Multiculturalism hosted Asian Australian Alliance Nepal Earthquake Relief Luncheon at NSW Parliament on 26th May 215.
The event was attended by The Hon. Linda Burney MP, The Hon. Consulate to Nepal Mr Deepak Khadka, Mathew Tukai chairman of Board of Directors, co-founder Entrehub.org ,AnjanaRegmi Convener of Asian Australian Alliance Women’s forum, Aruna Chandrala from Global Women Netwok and Daniel Mookhey who is the first person of sub-continent heritage from the labor party to become MLC in NSW Parliament..
It was one month back on 25th May 2015 when Australia was commemorating ANZAC Day celebrations, that Nepal had a 7.8 magnitude earthquake which caused major destruction and havoc.
In a very inspiring speech AnjnaRegmi said that she wishes that in the future Nepal is not described as a underdeveloped and poor country but as a rising nation that rebuilt itself from the piece and stands united.
Mathew Tukaki- said that there are 4 Pillars of reconstruction phase for Nepal -Food Shelter, Rebuilding economy, rebuilding infrastructure and education and had offered full support for the same.
There were couple of cultural performances by Sifa KC from NariNikunja Australia and Tam Martial Arts Centre Performance by The Dong Team.There were raffle draws and auctions to raise money which will go towards reconstruction of Nepal especially building of Town Halls and helping the single women.
