If there is any glamour left on the earth there is no doubt that it is confined to pockets along the French Riviera and this in part is most held true because of the film festival Cannes which opens in the summer. It is the only place where the premiere of a film (not movie) requires gentlemen to show up in Tuxedo.
In Cannes women are better dressed, the jewellery is more dramatic and the setting and events more prestigious than any other film related event in the world! So when our Indian contingent steps onto the red carpet which is normally reserved for European film heavyweights such as Marion Cotillard, Grace Kelly and EmanuelleBearte, it’s interesting to see how they scrub up.
So let’s look at the list of desi winners and losers!
Winner: Sonam Kapoor resplendent and daring in a electric blue gown by Ralph and Russo. Love this dress
Winner: Sonam shines in desi Abu Jani creation. Loving the hint of led and the power wings on this. Beautiful hair, earrings and styling.
Winner: Aishwarya Rai Bachanin gorgeous monochrome Ralph & Russo Couture. Flattering and beautiful. Hair up would be perfect but overall a gorgeous ensemble.
Winner: Katrina Kaif in red Elie Saab. The gown is beautiful. Perhaps hair tied in low chignon may have complemented the dress more but very pretty choice.
Loser: Mallika Sherawat who is normally sheer overtly “look at my body” dresses surprised us with a few choices that at least kept her modest. The styling and makeup, however left a lot to be desired. Someone get the girl a hairdresser.
Loser Aishwarya sported burgundy. would have been perfect for Cannes 2013 and what’s with the thin gold bangle?
Aishwarya’s teal dress was boring and old school and did nothing to flatter her.
So overall it’s nice to see that Bollywood is making it’s mark where fashion is concerned. Next year we hope to see more gorgeous stars in more gorgeous gowns with great styling.
