Minister of Citizenship and Communities The Hon Victor Dominello hosted the festival of Deepavali celebrated in the Parliament of New South Wales. In his message he said that NSW Parliament should reflect the community it represents and serves.
Dr Stephan Kerkyasharian AO, Chairperson, Community Relations Commission opened the official celebrations followed by the chanting of Vedic hymns by Hindu priests and ceremonial lightning of the lamp by Hon Barry O’Farrell Premier NSW and Hon Victor Dominello
Mr Arun Kumar Goel, Consul-General of India, in his address said “The Indian community in Australia is making their mark in their adopted motherland and I would like to congratulate all of them for their hardwork and contribution to Australian economic, social and cultural life”.
Australia National Anthem was performed by Kamahl who is an international singing star and Indian National Anthem was performed by Srijani Dan
Cultural Items were presented by Ruchi Sangi Dance Accademy, Indian Dance Centre and Kamahl. Wonderful performance was given by the students from India Calling –“connected Classrooms concept”
All the guests were given a box of sweets to take home.
