GOPIO Sydney introduced a noble concept for the first time in Australia, never tried anywhere by anyone, by organising "Heritage INDIA Festival" on September 7, 2014 at Sydney Baha’i Centre, Silverwater, 2014, to showcase the various cultural art forms, representing as many India states as possible, in its debut event on this brilliant and innovative theme.
The event was exclusively based on and sourced from the talent available locally in abundance and provided them with a brand new platform to showcase their talent, that will keep the younger generation in tune with true Indian Ethos.
This is just the beginning and it will be their annual event henceforth. With good teamwork and concerted efforts GOPIO Sydney was able to produce produce such a great event that it got overwhelming accolades from all sections of the society. The event organisers were flooded with applause from all quarters for organising such a magnificent and colorful event and the brilliant theme. This Heritage India Festival ended up being one of the best events representing Indian culture.
Rajasthani Dance, Haryanvi, Kathak, Marathi and Lavani Dances were choreographed and managed by Madhvi Mohindra; Kuchipudi – Marakatha (Krishna Piece) by Shobhana Kambhammetta; Maithili (combination of Garba, Dandiya and Saurashtra) dance and Bharatha Natyam by Savitri Naidoo; Vaadya Salangai (group dance by Mrs. Dhamayanthy Balaraju – Rajendran and her students; Bhangra by ROOH PUNJAB DEE SYDNEY. The songs Nain Lar Gayiye by Vinod Kumar Rajput, Om Numho Shivai by Jasmine Gill, Damma Dum Mast Kalander by Seema Bhardwaj, Aye Malik Tere Bande Hum and Aise Ho by Shobha Ingleshwar, Lathe di chaadar by Manpreet Kaur were presented. Heer sung by Riaz Shah was the highlight.
The show was beautifully anchored by Mona Grover and Sukhpreet of from Radio Safar Humsafar and Rajpal Sandhu and Rekha Rajvanshi keeping the audience glued to their chairs all throughout the program
The show HERITAGE INDIA FESTIVAL 2014 was covered by a multitude of media where many distinguished personalities participated i.e. community leaders, local councilors, Deputy Mayor, Members of NSW Parliament, Parliamentary Secretary, Leader of Opposition in NSW Parliament and Representative of Consul General of India.
The Prime Minister of Australia, The Hon Tony Abbott in his special message to attendees highlighted the importance of Heritage INDIA Festival 2014 in light of a new era of friendship between Australia and India after recently meeting The President of India The Hon Pranab Mukherjee and The Prime Minister Of India Hon Narendra Modi
