A 32-year-old Indian woman, Somay Santhosh gets killed in a rocket attack on Tuesday at Ashkelon, coastal city in southern Israel. She was a caregiver of an 80-year-old woman and belonged to Kerala. The caregiver got killed when one of the rockets fired by Hamas militants from Gaza Strip, crashed against the house of elderly, who also got injured in the attack and hospitalized, the Times of Israel reported.
Reports from New Delhi suggest that unlike other homes in the locality, the one of octogenarian’s did not have a secure room for the protection from the arial attacks. Both women were could not make it to the nearest rocket shelter before being attacked. The deceased was on a video call with husband in Kerala just before the beginning of the rocket attack.
After this saddening incident, The Embassy of India Tel Aviv has been in constant touch with Israeli government. The Minister of State for External Affairs, V Murleedharan spoke to grieving family in Kerala and promised to provide the all kind of possible help from the Indian government. He took to twitter to express his condolences and note that New Delhi had condemned the “attacks and violence in Jerusalem”.
Ron Malka, Israeli ambassador tweeted that he has spoken to the family of Somya Santhosh and offered his condolences on his behalf of the state of Israel.
The ambassador said his heart goes out to nine-year-old son, who lost his mother at such young age.
“I just spoke to the family of Ms Soumya Santosh, the victim of the Hamas terrorist strike. I expressed my sorrow for their unfortunate loss & extended my condolences on behalf of the state of Israel. The whole country is mourning her loss & we are here for them,” Malka tweeted.
“My heart goes out to her 9-year-old son, Adon, who has lost his mother at such a young age and will have to grow up without her. This evil attack reminds me of little Moses, who also lost his parents during the 2008 #Mumbaiattacks. May God give them strength and courage,” he added.
The bereaved family said that Somya was living in Israel for last seven years, while her husband and son are living in Kerala.
