People Must Not Pay Higher Fares For Vande Bharat Flights When Booking With Travel Agents
Observing this growing demand, the travel agents are taking advantage of this opportunity.
As told to Trak.in, Lakhpreet Singh, a Melbourne resident stuck in his hometown of Kapurthala when waiting to book tickets on Wednesday said that when AIR INDIA opened the bookings for the special flights from New Delhi to Adelaide set to fly out on August 3 and 6 the tickets disappeared within minutes. He said, “I stayed on the website and checked in on the Air India app, but the tickets were gone, I believe even before they opened them for booking. The website said the tickets had been sold out.” As it turns out, the majority of the tickets had been withheld by ‘travel agents’ who had been reportedly authorised by Air India to book and sell those tickets, leaving many passengers seeking alternatives to book a tickets. Singh said, “I could either go to an agent or to the nearest Air India booking office. So, I am now travelling from Kapurthala to Jalandhar to book tickets from their booking office.”
Yesterday, Air India again tweeted on this matter saying, “We request that before booking tickets for #VBM flights kindly check fares on the website . If you face any issue on account of overcharging, please email us on gmsm@airindia.in . We have also advised our Travel agents in this regard.” Air India warns travel agents against over-charging flyers Air India has been operating evacuation flights from various countries under the name of ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ (VBM). Recently, some of the VBM bookings were opened for travel agents also, however over the past few days, Air India has received many complaints through social media and other channels about fares being overcharged by some of the travel agents from distressed passengers. Being the flag carrier of India, Air India takes such matters seriously and any inconvenience caused to passengers by such overcharging are of great concern to them.
Air India would investigate all complaints received against travel agents and in case a complaint is found to be true on scrutiny, Air India will terminate the Ticketing Authority of the erring agent. Travel Agents shall also be responsible for tickets sold by their sub-agents. Keeping the above into consideration, Air India shall be publishing the fares under Vande Bharat Mission on its website. Further, Agents are requested not to resort to such malpractice of overcharging of fares / manipulating the price on Air India tickets.
