Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was a freedom fighter and India’s first home minister and deputy prime minister. PM Narendra Modi paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his death anniversary on Tuesday and hailed him as the “iron man” who laid the foundation of a strong and prosperous India.
He tweeted, “The path shown by him will always inspire us to protect the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country.”
Patel is credited with the unification of hundreds of princely states with the Union of India after independence. The Prime Minister expressed his deep admiration and respect for him and dedicated the Statue of Unity project in Gujarat as a tribute to Patel who had passed away in 1950.
