Sub Continent Friends of Labor fundraising dinner was a wonderful opportunity to meet MP’s including a large number of Federal Ministers and discuss your views and problems. The dinner was attended by nearly 520 people.
Guest speaker Brendan O’Connor, the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship in his address said “ Migrants from the sub continent continue to make magnificent contribution to Australian Economy, Society and culture. Migration is important for the Australian society and we will continue to request the people from overseas to fill in genuine skill shortages in our economy, but reforms are needed to make sure that the residents and citizens of this nation are offered employment first.”
Harish Velji, Chair person, sub continent friends of labor did an excellent job to bring the different communities together. The cultural performances by Nepalese, Punjabi and Bollywood dancers added colour to the night, along with the surprise performance by Aiska K. Fund raising was done by the auction of a handmade Afgan carpet for $1600, and the Frame Autographed by complete South African Cricket team for $700. There were also the raffle draw for the Return ticket to sub continent, ladies sari and a gents watch.
The message that the Labor Government gave to all present was “ Don’t be the friend of Labor, be the Voice of Labor”
